50th ANNUAL FLOWER & VEGETABLE SHOW
Sunday 4th September 2016
Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club will hold its “Golden Anniversary” 50th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show on
Sunday 4th September 2016.
The Show will again take place, with the kind permission of Peter Barber, in a large marquee on Spooners Flats, Hollin Lane, Sutton.
I hope that the weather is kind to you in the time leading up to the Show and that your growing season has started well after what seemed an endless winter. May and early June have been pleasantly mild …. but on writing this, on 11th June, Cheshire has featured in the National news with significant flash floods having taken place in Poynton – only a few miles away.
It really is a great achievement for a village Show like ours to reach the fantastic “Golden Anniversary” landmark – thanks to you all for your support over the years.
I’m sure that the majority of you will now be familiar with the Schedule. It is more or less the same as in previous years with just a few minor changes. After great interest and much research we are delighted to be staging the “World Lemon Cheese Championship”, yes that’s right a world champion will be crowned on 4th September in our very own village.
We have made a slight change to the “Collection of Vegetables” class, reducing the number of kinds of vegetables to be staged from six to five, just to try and encourage a few more entries.
Special thanks must again go to our friends at Jobling Gowler Solicitors for their wonderful, continued support.
The scarecrow competition will again take place, please spread the word and try to have a go. This year, like last year, will be an open competition so you can create a “crow” to resemble whatever you want & you’ll find full details later in the schedule.
The Show really is a friendly village event, and is open to everyone so please try and take part. Let’s hope the sun shines, the village turns out and we have a wonderful day. The marquee will be open to the public from 2:30pm - it takes us until then to finish the judging and write out the certificates for all 134 classes.
