49th ANNUAL FLOWER & VEGETABLE SHOW
Sunday 6th September 2015
Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club will hold its 49th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show on Sunday 6th September 2015.
The Show will again take place, with the kind permission of Peter & Jenny Barber, in a large marquee on Spooners Flats,
Hollin Lane, Sutton.
I hope that the weather is kind to you in the time leading up to the Show and that your growing season has started well after an unseasonably warm April, followed by a chilly and wet May… but on writing this on 9th June when I’ve had to clear a frosty car windscreen, I think we’ve all had a relatively slow start … the joy of gardening!.
I’m sure that the majority of you will now be familiar with the Schedule. It is more or less the same as in previous years with just a few minor changes, including the inclusion, for the first time, of an art class and again thanks to all of you who got in touch with ideas for classes.
We have four new trophies to be won this year – that takes the number of trophies up for grabs to a stunning forty-one. Thanks to all that have donated the new trophies, with the new cups being up for grabs in classes for art, sweet peas, heaviest marrow and chilli/peppers.
Special thanks must again go to our friends at Jobling Gowler Solicitors for their wonderful, continued support.
The scarecrow competition will again take place, please spread the word and try to have a go. This year, like last year, will be an open competition so you can create a “crow” to resemble whatever you want & you’ll find full details later in the schedule.
The Show really is a friendly village event, and is open to everyone so please try and take part. Let’s hope the sun shines, the village turns out and we have a wonderful day. The marquee will be open to the public from 2:30pm - it takes us until then to finish the judging and write out the certificates for all 134 classes.
After a simply outstanding show last year, which saw us attract an unbelievable 1,281 exhibits from 213 exhibitors – realistically what can we expect this year? We can’t go on getting bigger and better every year can we?
